How is qualitative data analysis different from quantitative data analysis?
Qualitative Data: This type of data deals with descriptions, characteristics, and qualities. It’s more subjective and focuses on the attributes, experiences, or qualities of something.
It often answers questions like “What?”, “How?”, or “Why?” or in other words It’s interpretive, aiming to grasp the ‘how’ and ‘why’ behind human behavior, experiences, or attitudes.
While qualitative analysis provides in-depth insights and a deeper understanding of the subject matter, quantitative analysis offers measurable and often generalizable findings, highlighting the ‘how many’ or ‘how much’ aspects.
Quantitative Data: This type of data deals with quantities and can be measured and expressed numerically. It focuses on numerical values, amounts, or quantities and is often used to answer questions like “How many?”, “How much?”, or “To what extent?”
In other words, quantitative deals with numerical data, employing statistical techniques to quantify and analyze variables. It seeks to identify statistical relationships, trends, or differences, aiming for results that can be generalized across populations.
